The sketches here are just ideas of what type of shape the laptop could represent, some ideas are far fetched and some have only hints of a difference.

My sister is pure inspiration

I was talking my project over with my big sister who at the time was opening christmas cards that were delivered through the post and it hit me. Why not design a laptop that when closed looks like a pile of letters? Not your bills or junk mail but letters off friends, loved ones or pen pals? This also keeps with the theme for the buttons of the 1950's era. Also as I follow fashion the resent trend is that of a vintage feel, old jumpers, grandad coats, leather boots, wartime bags and the 1950's feel is apparent in todays fashion. Thus leading to this design being bag on trend and a big seller.

A worry that turned into an advantage

A worry I came across was that there are an awful lot of wooden covers to be found for apple products. As my laptop's stylish design is loosely inspired by these products I was concerned that my idea would be a flop. However the wood design i have in mind is that of a rustic feel rather that the fresh, clean modern wood covers that are on the market right now. This I feel gives my design a unique feel towards it, which ultimately has turned into an advantage rather than a hinderance.

Inpiration

Over the christmas break I had a thought about what is already out there on the market in the way of laptop covers, what styles, themes and shapes were already out there. As my laptop focuses on disgusting the laptop itself it seems like the right stage to look into these for help with sketch work. These images gave me an idea what what could be done.

Sketching ideas

The ideas for the sketches of the laptop are a range of different designs, some extremely practical, some highly impractical. Some are of the concept that has been chosen and some are just ideas that have popped into my head. They will be posted shortly.

Enhancing Ideas

With the research that has been found, there are a lot of wooden cover for laptops, so with this in mind the idea of exploring into different areas in this design seems to be the right choice.
The thought of a dragonfly wing effect on the cover of designs is new and exciting. Images below show the design of the wings that could incorporate on to the design.

Existing Deisgn

I have found a similar existing design like to the one i am hoping to produce.  It is for the mackbook pros, and is a wooden casing for it, this is incredibly similar to my re-design. However it is very clean cut, whereas mine will have a raw and rough appearance and will actually be on the laptop.

1950 Era

As the typewriter I am looking into is from the 1950 era, research into that particular era seems necessary. here are images of the fashion, photography cars and technology of the time. This helps as it advices my design process to match the desired result.
